Professional Certificate in Strategic Command Leadership and Operations Planning

TARGET AUDIENCE  Commissioners of Police and other high-ranking security officers.

PHILOSOPHY: To provide high-level training for officers in leadership positions in the police and other security agencies to enable them to carry out strategic command and effective security management.

OBJECTIVES: To equip law enforcement and other security officers in leadership positions, notably commissioners of police, with advanced knowledge and skills in strategic command leadership, operations crime planning, intelligence integration and agencies operability, and community trust-building to achieve more effective policing.

RATIONALE/JUSTIFICATION: The need for specialized training for high-level police officers and other high-ranking security personnel has been identified. It is generally assumed that high-ranking security officers have enough knowledge and training to effectively carry out their assignment, but this is not entirely correct. It has been established that high-ranking officers in the police and other security agencies need regular updating of their knowledge of different aspects of security and this is confirmed by the statements of many of the officers themselves. It is to fill this gap that this course is being introduced. The nature of crime and threat to security are always changing and there is the need to understand new trends and how to effectively address them. The course will provide valuable information on new developments in policing and deepen the understanding of the changing pattern of security.
